Chapter 9 - Bloodlines|

Alexander dropped the paper as if it had caught fire. He turned around slowly, his eyes wide, staring at the three-year-old girl in the frayed T-shirt.

"She's... she's Sarah's daughter," Alexander gasped, his voice cracking.

Elena stared at the paper on the floor, her mind exploding into sheer chaos. "No... no, that's impossible! Sofie is my daughter! I gave birth to her at Saint Jude's Hospital three years ago!"

"Saint Jude's?" Marcus interrupted, stepping forward. "Saint Jude's was owned by Sarah's private charitable foundation before she disappeared."

Elena collapsed onto her knees, clutching Sofie as tears streamed down her cheeks.

Three years ago, Elena had been a desperate, broke woman living in a shelter, pregnant and terrified. A private foundation had covered her medical bills at Saint Jude's, arranged her private room, and provided her with a job at Carter Enterprises after Sofie was born.

She had believed it was charity.

In reality, she had been chosen.

Sarah Carter, hiding in the shadows, had used an anonymous surrogate system to carry her child safely away from Alexander's reach—placing the baby with a kind, hardworking woman who would bring the child directly into the heart of Alexander's empire without raising a single suspicion.

"She planted you," Alexander whispered, looking at Elena with a terrifying realization. "She gave you a job in my building... she put her child in my penthouse... knowing that eventually, the baby would bring the ring to the vault."

Before anyone could speak, the penthouse's private elevator chimed behind them.

The heavy steel doors slid open.
