Chapter 20 - The Unwritten Page|

As the afternoon sun began to set, casting long golden shadows across the park, the three of them packed up their picnic basket and walked hand-in-hand toward the park exit.

Sofie walked between them, holding her small wooden falcon figurine that Sarah had restored and polished for her.

They reached the street corner, where a sleek electric vehicle was waiting for them.

Marcus stood by the door, opening it with a warm, respectful smile. "Good evening, ladies. Ready to go home?"

"Ready, Marcus," Sarah smiled.

Before climbing into the car, Sofie stopped on the pavement, looking up at the high Manhattan skyscrapers glowing under the evening stars.

She looked down at her thumb, where the cheap green plastic ring—the ring that had unlocked a vault, exposed a murderer, and saved three lives—still sat snugly on her finger.

She pulled the ring off, looked at it carefully, and then reached out, dropping it gently into the small stone wishing fountain beside the park gate.

Splash.

The green ring sank to the bottom of the clear water, coming to rest among hundreds of bright copper pennies.

"What did you wish for, Sofie?" Elena asked warmly, lifting her daughter into her arms.

Sofie wrapped her small arms around Elena's neck, smiling radiantly into the soft evening breeze.

May you like

"I wished for tomorrow," Sofie said happily.

Sarah closed the car door behind them, and as the vehicle glided silently into the glowing evening streets, the dark stories of the past faded away forever—leaving the wide, beautiful horizon of their future completely open, safe, and unwritten.
