Chapter 16 - The Legacy|

By six o'clock that evening, the grand opening celebration had settled into a quiet, joyful evening dinner inside the center's garden courtyard.

Tables were laden with fresh food, lanterns glowed softly in the autumn breeze, and children ran happily across the lawn.

Elena sat at a wooden table with Sarah, sipping sweet tea, watching Sofie lead a group of children in a game of tag.

"She has your energy," Elena laughed, shaking her head as Sofie sprinted past them.

"And she has your stubbornness," Sarah teased, nudging Elena's shoulder gently. "She refused to go to sleep last night until she finished her drawing."

A young woman carrying a baby walked up to their table, her face filled with quiet, profound gratitude.

"Mrs. Carter? Miss Elena?" the young woman asked nervously.

Elena stood up warmly. "Yes? How can we help you?"

"I just wanted to say thank you," the woman whispered, tears welling in her eyes. "I lost my job last week, and I didn't know how I was going to pay rent or feed my baby. The counselor inside just gave me a daycare grant and a job interview for Monday."

Elena took the woman's hand, squeezing it softly. "You don't ever have to worry about being alone again. That's why we're here."

The woman wiped a tear, smiling radiantly as she walked back into the main hall.

Sarah looked at Elena, her eyes shining with deep admiration. "You are incredible, Elena."

"We are incredible," Elena corrected softly, sitting back down. "Together."
