Chapter 17 - The Unbroken Circle|

As the stars began to twinkle in the clear evening sky, the last guests began to file out of the community center.

Elena and Sarah walked through the quiet hallways, turning off the lights, ensuring every door was locked and secure.

Sofie walked between them, holding both of their hands, swinging her small feet as they walked toward the front entrance.

They stepped out onto the front porch. The autumn wind blew gently, sweeping golden leaves across the clean pavement.

Sofie stopped, looking up at the high glass entrance of the building.

"Mommy?" Sofie asked, looking at Elena.

"Yes, sweetie?"

"Is this building strong?" Sofie asked, her dark eyes bright and curious. "Like the big shiny door?"

Elena knelt down in front of her daughter, zipping up Sofie's warm winter coat.

"This building is much stronger than that big shiny door, Sofie," Elena smiled softly.

"Why?" Sofie asked, tilting her head.

Sarah knelt down beside them, wrapping her arms around both of them, kissing Sofie's cheek gently.

"Because the big shiny door was built with secrets and fear," Sarah explained softly to her daughter. "And this building was built with love."

Sofie smiled brightly, reaching out her small hands to hug both of her mothers tightly.
