Chapter 2 - The Click|

Elena froze in her tracks, three feet from her daughter. The warmth drained from her face as forty pairs of eyes shifted from the child to her faded cleaning uniform.
"I said... let the girl try," Alexander repeated, his voice dropping into a quiet, dangerous register. "It’s good for morale."
A few executives chuckled nervously, but the atmosphere in the room had shifted. The lighthearted amusement was gone, replaced by the sharp, cruel edge of wealthy men watching a poor woman be put in her place.
Sofie didn't notice the tension. She looked up at the vast, featureless slab of brushed titanium. To her, it wasn't a vault containing corporate secrets, bearer bonds, or untraceable foreign currency. It was just a big, shiny wall.
She reached out her small hand.
"Sofie, no, come to Mommy—" Elena pleaded, taking a step forward.
"Stay right where you are," Alexander commanded, his voice cold as steel.
Sofie’s tiny, index finger pressed against the bottom right corner of the vault door. Not against the digital keypad. Not against the biometric thumbprint scanner. Not against the heavy wheel handle in the center.
She pressed her nail into a seam so thin that it was invisible to the naked eye—a microscopic flaw where two titanium plates met near the floor.
CLICK.
The sound was not loud. It was a soft, metallic release—the sound of a precision-engineered deadbolt disengaging from a reinforced frame.
The room died.
The laughter vanished so fast it felt as if someone had sucked all the oxygen out of the penthouse. Richard Blake’s glass stopped halfway to his mouth. The two guards standing by the mahogany doors went completely rigid.

The vault door, weighing six thousand pounds, swung outward by half an inch.
Alexander Carter stopped leaning on his desk. The color drained from his face until he went the shade of old, wet paper.
