CHAPTER 34 — THE SIEGE OF FORT PREBLE

"Perimeter breached!" a technician shouted, his fingers flying across his keyboard. "It’s not Thomas. It’s a joint task force—FBI tactical units and unmarked private black-ops contractors!"

"Thomas sold the coordinates to the feds," Alexander hissed, drawing his weapon. "He’s using the US government as his personal battering ram."

The blast doors exploded inward in a shower of sparks and jagged steel. Smoke grenades flooded the control room, plunging the area into blinding white chaos. Flashbangs detonated in rapid succession, shattering the glass windows overlooking the ocean.

"Get Lily under the console!" Anna screamed, tackling the little girl to the floor as automatic gunfire erupted from the smoke.

Alexander stood his ground, firing methodically into the advancing tactical teams. Beside him, Victoria’s commandos formed a wall of counter-fire, but the sheer numbers of the federal forces were overwhelming.

Through the smoke, a figure walked calmly into the room, flanked by two bodyguards holding ballistic shields.

It was Thomas Whitmore, his face twisted in a manic, triumphant grin. He wasn't carrying a weapon; he was carrying a satellite uplink device.

"It’s over, Victoria!" Thomas shouted over the roar of the gunfire. "The Department of Justice has signed a national security warrant. This fortress is now property of the United States government. Step away from the pedestal and hand over the child!"

Victoria stood unfazed, her hand hovering just inches above the first tier of the biometric scanner. "You are an interloper in this house, Thomas. You always have been."

"Shoot her!" Thomas roared to his men.
