Chapter 9 - The Spin and the Stream

|

When the sun rose on Sunday morning, the Vance family PR machine was already working overtime in a desperate attempt to control the narrative.

Eleanor, utilizing her extensive network of high-society gossips and friendly journalists, immediately leaked a carefully crafted story to the local press. The headline on a prominent gossip blog read: Billionaire Bride Has Meltdown, Cancels Rescue Package Over Harmless Prank.

The article painted me as an unstable, highly emotional, and vindictive woman who was ruthlessly punishing an innocent family over a "traditional wedding cake mishap." They were trying to shame me into returning the funds to save face.

They severely underestimated the power of the internet.

While Eleanor was busy leaking to journalists, my sister Sarah was working her own magic.

"You need to see this," Sarah said, walking into the living room and handing me her tablet.

Kyle, the arrogant best man, had livestreamed the entire cake incident to his thousands of followers. He thought it was hilarious. But once the stream ended, the internet quickly turned on him. Someone had screen-recorded the broadcast, and it was currently going massively viral across every social media platform.

The video didn't show a harmless prank. It clearly showed Grant gripping my neck with violent, aggressive force. It showed me struggling. It showed the profound cruelty on his face when he yelled, "Now she finally looks sweet!"

And worst of all, the video included the clear, unedited audio from the hallway that Sarah had captured and seamlessly spliced onto the end of the viral clip.

Millions of people clearly heard Grant screaming, "Your fund is our money now!" followed by Eleanor’s chilling instruction to "Make her calm down."

The narrative of the "unstable bride" evaporated before breakfast. The court of public opinion delivered an instantaneous, brutal verdict. Grant wasn't a prankster; he was a violent, manipulative abuser. And Eleanor was his enabler.

The Vance family wasn't just facing financial ruin anymore. They were facing absolute public annihilation.
