Chapter 14 - The Final Nail

I aimed the remote at the boardroom’s audio-visual system and pressed play.
The high-fidelity speakers embedded in the ceiling crackled to life. Grant’s arrogant, unguarded voice instantly filled the tense room, completely destroying any last shred of plausible deniability.
“After the wedding, she won’t risk the humiliation of leaving. She’ll fund whatever I put in front of her.”
Grant froze, his eyes widening in sheer, unadulterated terror as he recognized the recording from the conference room phone.
Then, Eleanor’s cold, calculated voice chimed in through the speakers.
“Then remind her what family loyalty looks like. Break her down early.”
The recording clicked off, plunging the room back into a heavy, damning silence.
The independent directors looked absolutely horrified. The bank representative on the video screen had stopped typing and was staring in open-mouthed shock.
Grant lost his mind.
Realizing his entire life, his freedom, and his fortune were evaporating in real-time, he let out a guttural yell. He lunged across the mahogany table, his arms outstretched, desperately trying to grab my laptop to smash the evidence.
Before my security could even react, Richard—the father who had sat passively by for years—finally moved.
He shot out of his chair, reaching across the table, and violently caught Grant’s wrist in a bone-crushing grip. He yanked his son backward with a surprising, desperate strength.
"Sit down!" Richard roared, his voice cracking with a mixture of immense grief and furious betrayal. "Sit down right now, you absolute fool!"
Grant stumbled backward, falling heavily into his leather chair, breathing heavily, staring at his father in shock.
Richard looked at his wife and his son, the terrible reality of their actions finally breaking him. He turned to the independent directors, his shoulders sagging in defeat.
"I... I knew nothing of this," Richard whispered, his voice broken. "I swear to you all, I did not know."
The lead independent director, a stern woman with a reputation for ruthlessness, didn't offer sympathy. She simply looked at the bank representative on the screen.

"I believe we have heard enough," the director stated formally. "I move for an immediate vote to remove Grant Vance as Chief Operating Officer, and Eleanor Vance as Finance Chair, effectively immediately, for egregious gross misconduct and criminal fraud."
The vote was instantaneous and unanimous.
