Chapter 36 - Stripping the Crown | "This is a mistake! You have no proof!" Arthur screamed as he was dragged away from the table, his formal suit rumpled. "Claire, you can't do this! You're out of your mind!"

"I have Mara's phone logs, Arthur," I said, standing at the head of the table where he had been standing just seconds before. "Before she died, she recorded every conversation she had with you. Including the one where you authorized the hit at the estate."

The rest of the board sat in terrified silence, staring at me as if I were a ghost returned from hell to collect their souls.

"Now," I said, resting my hands on the leather chair at the head of the table. "Is there anyone else on this board who feels the need to liquidate my company today?"

No one moved. No one spoke. Not a single person dared to meet my gaze.

"Good," I said smoothly. "Then effective immediately, this board is dissolved. I am taking Vance Global private."

"You can't do that without a shareholder vote!" one of the younger board members stammered out.

Julian Vance stepped forward, placing a thick stack of legal documents onto the table. "She owns sixty percent of the voting shares as of an hour ago, gentlemen. Courtesy of my private holdings. The game is over."

I looked out the massive windows of the boardroom, staring at the city skyline. I had won. The Vances were gone. The traitors were dead or in handcuffs. The company was completely, undeniably mine.

Yet, as I looked at my reflection in the dark glass, I realized something terrifying.

I didn't recognize the woman looking back at me anymore.
