Chapter 31 - The Breach | The force of the blast threw us all to the concrete floor. Smoke filled the room, thick and suffocating, smelling of sulfur and burnt electronics.

"Claire! Down!" Marcus yelled, pulling me behind a massive oak wine rack as the steel door was kicked off its hinges.
Figures in black tactical armor moved through the smoke like ghosts, their suppressed weapons spitting silent bursts of lead into the darkness.
Mara scrambled backward, screaming as bullets ricocheted off the concrete walls. "Wait! I'm the contact! I'm the one who gave you the codes!"
The lead operative didn't even slow down. He raised his rifle and fired two precise shots. Mara’s body went limp, collapsing against the stone wall, her eyes wide open, staring at nothing.
I pulled my knees to my chest, choking back a sob. She was a traitor, but watching her die in front of me was a horrific reality check. There was no mercy here. No negotiations.
"We move to the back exit now!" Marcus whispered in my ear, grabbing my shoulder.
"Where is it?" I whispered back, my voice trembling.
"Behind the third rack!" Marcus pointed to a low wooden door hidden in the stonework. "I’m going to draw their fire. When I start shooting, you run for that door and don't look back."
"Marcus, no! I'm not leaving you!"

"It's my job, Claire," Marcus said, looking at me with absolute resolve. "Now move!"
Marcus stood up from behind the rack, firing his weapon rapidly into the smoke, providing a wall of suppression fire.
