Chapter 39

The raid on Damian Croft’s penthouse was swift, overwhelming, and utterly decisive. At precisely 7:00 PM, while Croft was sitting at his multi-monitor workstation, believing he was about to successfully track his wife's escape, the heavy mahogany doors of his luxury apartment were blown off their hinges by an FBI tactical team.
"FBI! Step away from the keyboards! Hands where we can see them!" heavily armed agents flooded the room, their flashlights cutting through the darkness of the tech mogul's sanctuary.
Croft, a man who had built his entire life around the illusion of absolute, untouchable control, completely froze. He raised his hands, his face pale with absolute shock, unable to comprehend how his impenetrable digital fortress had been breached.
"This is a mistake!" Croft shouted as two agents roughly slammed him against his expensive glass desk and applied heavy steel handcuffs. "I am a federal contractor! I demand to speak to my lawyers!"
"Your lawyers can't save you from a federal cyber-terrorism charge, Mr. Croft," Agent Vance said coldly, stepping into the room and immediately securing the active computer terminals before Croft could trigger a wipe protocol. "You just launched an illegal malware attack on a federal server. You’re looking at twenty years in a maximum-security penitentiary."
Back at Clearview, Emily and Chloe sat in the quiet of the intake room, waiting for the call. Chloe was holding her breath, her hands clasped tightly together.
When Emily's phone finally rang, she answered it on speaker.
"It's done," Nathan's voice came through, filled with immense relief. "Croft is in federal custody. They seized all his servers and his personal devices. He is completely disconnected."
Chloe let out a sound that was half-sob, half-laugh. She collapsed back against the sofa, burying her face in her hands as years of suffocating, invisible terror finally evaporated from her shoulders. She was free.

Emily walked over and wrapped her arms tightly around the young woman, holding her as she cried tears of pure, unadulterated joy.
"He can't watch you anymore, Chloe," Emily whispered fiercely, pressing a kiss to her hair. "The cameras are off. You get your life back today."
