Chapter 22

In the weeks following the FBI raid, the spectacular collapse of Senator Harrison Thorne’s political and financial empire became the biggest scandal of the decade. The evidence seized from Geneva proved to be devastatingly comprehensive. Marcus Vance, desperate to avoid a life sentence in a foreign prison, immediately turned state's evidence, providing federal prosecutors with a meticulous roadmap of every single fraudulent loan, shell company, and money-laundering operation Thorne had ever orchestrated.
The public narrative shifted drastically. The man who had gone on television to paint his wife as a hysterical, mentally unstable woman was now universally recognized as a calculating predator. Sarah Thorne was entirely exonerated of all the fraudulent debt that had been maliciously anchored to her name.
On a quiet Tuesday afternoon, Emily sat in her office, finalizing the paperwork for Sarah’s transition into a permanent, secure apartment across the city. Sarah was sitting across from her, looking completely transformed. The hollow, terrified woman who had arrived at Clearview a month ago was gone, replaced by a radiant, confident survivor ready to reclaim her life.
"I don't know how to possibly thank you, Emily," Sarah said, signing the final page of her new lease agreement with a steady hand. "You and Nathan risked the entire foundation for me. You went to war with a giant."
"We didn't risk the foundation, Sarah. You are the foundation," Emily smiled warmly, organizing the papers into a neat folder. "Clearview doesn't exist to protect its own reputation; it exists to protect you. And you fought just as hard. You brought us the ledgers. You found the courage to walk out that door."
Sarah took a deep breath, looking around the safe, quiet office. "I am going to start a charity initiative of my own. I want to help women who are trapped in high-net-worth abusive marriages. The kind of abuse that looks perfect from the outside but is a nightmare on the inside."
"I think that is a brilliant idea," Emily encouraged her, immensely proud of the resilience she witnessed. "And whenever you are ready, there is a permanent seat for you on the Clearview advisory board."
As Sarah left the office, ready to begin her new life, Nathan walked in, holding a thick, sealed envelope with the return address of the federal penitentiary.

"This just arrived in the mail," Nathan said, his expression serious as he handed it to Emily. "It's from Daniel's attorney. It looks official."
Emily looked at the envelope. The ghost of her past was trying to reach out one last time, hoping to claim some credit for the victory against Thorne.
