Before facing the media, Emily took a rare moment away from the chaos to visit her mother. Katherine still lived in the cozy cottage nearby, her home a sanctuary of warm tea, old books, and quiet wisdom. Emily sat at the small kitchen table, watching as Katherine poured hot water into two porcelain cups.
"He is trying to drown us in paperwork and silence us with fear," Emily admitted, wrapping her hands around the warm mug. "I know we can beat him, Mom. But the sheer weight of it... sometimes it feels like the war never truly ends. Just the faces change."
Katherine sat down opposite her daughter, resting her hands on her polished wooden cane. Her speech was slower these days, but her mind remained as sharp as shattered glass.
"The faces will always change, Emily," Katherine said softly. "There will always be men who believe power is a weapon meant to crush the vulnerable. But you must remember that you have changed, too. You are not the frightened woman who walked away from Daniel with nothing but a bruised heart."
Emily looked into her mother's eyes, drawing strength from the deep, unconditional love she found there.
"Croft believes his money and his technology make him a giant," Katherine continued, offering a fierce, proud smile. "But giants are notoriously clumsy, my darling. They step on their own feet because they refuse to look down. Let him swing his heavy sword. You just need to be fast, be smart, and let his own momentum pull him to the ground."
Emily took a deep breath, the lingering exhaustion in her bones melting away, replaced by a renewed, fiery resolve.
"Thank you, Mom," Emily smiled, finishing her tea. "I needed to hear that."
"Go slay your dragon, Emily," Katherine chuckled warmly. "And tell Nathan not to work too late tonight. He promised to help me fix my garden gate this weekend."

Emily drove back to Clearview with crystal clear focus. When she stepped up to the podium outside the foundation’s main building that afternoon, flanked by dozens of reporters and news cameras, she didn't look defensive or afraid.
"Damian Croft has filed a baseless, fifty-million-dollar lawsuit against this foundation in an attempt to financially terrorize us into surrendering a survivor of severe domestic abuse," Emily announced to the flashing cameras, her voice echoing with absolute authority. "He believes his wealth buys him the right to act with total impunity. It does not. Clearview will not yield a single inch. We will not be intimidated, we will not be silenced, and we will see Mr. Croft in federal court."
