Chapter 20

The victory at the gates bought them precious time, but Emily knew the war was far from over. Harrison Thorne was wounded, humiliated, and desperate—a combination that made him incredibly dangerous. They needed to secure the evidence from Geneva before Thorne could use his vast resources to destroy it.
Late that night, long after the residents of Clearview had gone to sleep, the core team gathered in the secure digital-forensics lab that used to be Daniel's manipulation room. Nathan, acting in his capacity as the foundation's lead counsel, had spent the last six hours drafting a massive, ironclad federal subpoena request.
"I have a contact in the FBI’s white-collar crime division," Nathan explained, projecting his laptop screen onto the wall. "He is an honest agent who owes me a favor. If I hand him the connection between Thorne, Apex Financial, and Marcus Vance, he can bypass the local political red tape and take this straight to a federal judge for an emergency data seizure in Switzerland."
"But we need to give the FBI enough probable cause to justify an international subpoena," Robert pointed out, tapping a pen against the desk. "Right now, we only have the word of a convicted felon in a federal prison and the testimony of a traumatized wife."
Rachel stepped up to the keyboard, her fingers flying across the keys as she pulled up a series of highly complex spreadsheets.
"We have more than that," Rachel smiled fiercely. "While you were fighting Thorne at the gates, I took the name Marcus Vance and ran it against the metadata of the fraudulent loan documents Sarah brought us. Vance's digital signature—a specific encrypted routing code—is embedded in the metadata of every single PDF file Thorne forced Sarah to sign."
Nathan’s eyes widened in genuine amazement. "Rachel, you are an absolute genius. That is hard, irrefutable digital evidence of an international conspiracy to commit fraud."
"I learned from the best," Rachel said, winking at Emily. "The arrogance of these men is always their downfall. They believe they are too smart to leave a trail, so they reuse the same convenient tools over and over again."
Emily looked at the screen, feeling a profound sense of closure washing over her. The room that had once been the center of her darkest nightmare, the place where Daniel had carefully manufactured fake evidence to destroy her sanity, was now the exact place where real evidence was being meticulously gathered to save another woman's life.

"Send it, Nathan," Emily ordered, her voice ringing with absolute certainty. "Send the dossier to your contact at the FBI. Let's finish this."
Nathan hit the enter key. The encrypted file vanished into the ether, hurtling toward the federal authorities. The trap was officially set.
