Chapter 9 - The Poison in the Media

“What do you mean she posted bail?!” I roared, standing up from my chair so fast it nearly overturned onto the rug. “She attempted to murder my baby on high-definition video!”
“I know, Mr. Vance, and I am just as furious as you are,” Detective Miller replied, her voice tight with frustration. “Her defense team presented a surprise bond hearing two hours ago in front of a district magistrate. A private firm wire-transferred two million dollars in cash to secure her immediate release pending trial.”
“Who paid it?” Arthur demanded into the phone. “Which firm?”
“A corporate entity registered as Sterling Holdings,” Miller answered. “Her conditions of release require her to wear an ankle monitor and stay five hundred yards away from your family. But you need to be careful, Mr. Vance. Her legal team is already making moves.”
Ten minutes after hanging up with the detective, my phone began vibrating continuously with incoming alerts.
Notifications from news outlets, social media platforms, and private messages flooded my screen.
I opened the top trending news link on my browser.
A glossy headline read: Billionaire Investor Adrian Vance Accused of Framing Young Fiancée Using Deepfake AI Security Video.
Below the headline was a video clip released directly by Vanessa’s legal team.
Vanessa was standing on the steps of the courthouse, flanked by two high-priced defense lawyers in pristine suits. She was wearing a simple white dress, no makeup, and crying softly into a tissue.
“I am completely innocent,” Vanessa sobbed into the cluster of news microphones. “Adrian has been suffering from severe psychological paranoia and aggressive outbursts since his first wife died. When I told him I was leaving him because of his abusive behavior, he used advanced AI software to fabricate a video framing me for hurting sweet little Emma. He’s using his wealth to destroy my life!”
The comment sections below the video were exploding with thousands of angry messages condemning me, calling for my immediate arrest, and demanding my corporate board remove me from my company.
The public didn't know about the hidden passports. They didn't know about the secret poison. They only saw a beautiful, weeping young woman claiming to be a victim of a powerful, abusive billionaire.
I slammed my laptop shut, my hands shaking with pure outrage.

The war wasn't going to be fought inside a quiet courtroom.
She was trying to ruin my life, destroy my reputation, and turn the entire world against me before the trial even began.
