Chapter 8 - The Bait

Julian kissed Elena deeply before leaving the chalet. "Anton's men are surrounding the perimeter. You are perfectly safe here. I will be back by morning."

"Julian," she gripped his hand, her eyes filled with fear. "Don't let him win."

"He's already lost," Julian promised.

Julian drove to the abandoned docks. Rain lashed against the corrugated steel of the massive, empty warehouse. He stood alone in the center, a briefcase by his feet, waiting.

Exactly at midnight, a convoy of black SUVs rolled into the warehouse. Doors opened, and a dozen armed mercenaries stepped out, forming a perimeter.

Finally, Victor stepped out of the lead car, holding an umbrella. Camila was right beside him, shivering in her designer trench coat.

Victor clapped his hands slowly, a mocking smile on his face. "Julian! Look at you. The great titan of industry, hiding in a dirty warehouse. I must say, I'm disappointed. I thought you'd put up more of a fight."

"You took my wife, Victor," Julian said, his voice echoing in the massive space. "You stole from me. You tried to murder my unborn child."

Victor shrugged. "Business is ruthless, Julian. You taught me that. Now, where are the transfer documents? Sign the company over, and maybe I'll make your deaths quick."

"I thought you said we were letting them go!" Camila hissed at Victor. "You said you just wanted the money!"

"Shut up, Camila," Victor snapped. He pulled a gun from his coat and aimed it at Julian. "Sign the papers, Julian. Or I'll have my men find your little cabin in the woods and finish the maid."

Julian didn't flinch. He just smiled. It was a cold, terrifying smile.

"You're right about one thing, Victor. Business is ruthless."

Julian pressed a button on his watch.

The heavy steel doors of the warehouse slammed shut. The lights cut out, plunging the space into absolute darkness.
