Chapter 20

Elena watched the red dot on her tablet screen move steadily down the winding, cypress-lined driveway of the estate. She quickly picked up her phone and dialed the leader of Julian’s tactical perimeter team, a seasoned veteran named Rossi (no relation to Julian).
"Captain," Elena said, her voice crisp and authoritative. "Maria, the new maid, is exiting the main gates in one of the staff vehicles. She is the mole. Do not apprehend her yet. Let her drive down into the valley."
"Understood, Mrs. Rossi," the captain replied over the radio static. "We have a drone in the air tracking her vehicle. What are your orders?"
"She believes she is carrying highly confidential documents," Elena explained, walking briskly toward the nursery. "She won't go to the post office. She is going to meet her handler to deliver the intel. Follow her from a safe distance. The moment she makes contact with Lorenzo's men, surround them and take them all down."
"Copy that. We are moving out."
Elena entered the nursery, immediately scooping Isabella out of her crib. The baby babbled happily, completely oblivious to the intense tactical operation unfolding around her. Elena kissed her daughter’s soft cheek, feeling a fierce, overwhelming surge of protective maternal instinct. She was no longer a victim waiting for a rescue; she was actively defending her family's castle.
Meanwhile, a few miles down the road, Maria pulled the staff car onto a deserted dirt path hidden behind an abandoned olive press. A black SUV with heavily tinted windows was waiting in the shadows.
Maria scrambled out of her car, clutching the envelopes, and ran toward the SUV. The passenger door opened, revealing a scarred man in a tailored suit.
"Did you get the estate security schedules?" the man demanded in rough Italian.
"No, better," Maria panted, handing over the envelopes. "She gave me confidential legal documents to mail. She suspects absolutely nothing."
Before the man could even tear open the envelope, four armored tactical vehicles violently breached the tree line, surrounding the SUV in a cloud of dust.

"Drop the weapons! Hands in the air!" a dozen voices screamed over megaphones.
The mole was caught.
