Chapter 26

The wine flowed freely, and the conversation shifted from the heavy shadows of their past to the bright, boundless possibilities of their future.

"We need to start thinking about Isabella’s education," Julian noted playfully, tracing small circles on the back of Elena’s hand. "I’ve already had Marcus scout the security protocols for three elite boarding schools in Switzerland."

Elena burst out laughing, nearly spilling her wine. "Julian! She is one year old! She just learned how to walk without falling over her own feet."

"It pays to be prepared," Julian argued with a straight face, though the corners of his eyes crinkled with amusement. "She is a Rossi. She needs the absolute best."

"She needs to be a child," Elena countered gently, a warm smile playing on her lips. "I want her to grow up running through the vineyards, getting mud on her dresses, and learning how to bake bread in the kitchen. I don't want her trapped in a highly secured, sterile environment."

Julian looked at her, his expression softening completely. He realized that Elena was right. He had grown up in a world of cold luxury and rigid expectations, devoid of genuine warmth. He wanted something entirely different for his daughter.

"You're right," Julian conceded smoothly. "Mud and vineyards it is. I'll have the groundskeepers plant a dedicated strawberry patch just for her to destroy."

"She will love that," Elena beamed.

Julian stood up from his chair, walking around the small table. He offered his hand to Elena. "Dance with me."

"There is no music," Elena pointed out, though she eagerly placed her hand in his and let him pull her to her feet.

"I don't need music," Julian murmured, pulling her flush against his chest and wrapping his arms securely around her waist.

They swayed gently under the vast canopy of glittering stars, the rhythmic sound of the ocean waves providing their perfect melody. Elena rested her head against his chest, listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart. She felt incredibly safe, incredibly loved, and completely at peace.
