Chapter 17

Federal Correctional Institution, Danbury.
Camila sat on the edge of her metal cot, staring at the bleak, gray walls of her solitary confinement cell. She looked remarkably different from the glamorous, manipulative socialite who had terrorized Elena a year ago. Her hair was dull, her skin pale from a lack of sunlight, and she wore a shapeless, scratchy beige uniform.
But her eyes still burned with that same toxic, narcissistic venom.
The heavy metal slot on her cell door slid open with a sharp clatter. A prison guard, a heavy-set man named Miller, peered through the narrow opening.
"You got a message from your Italian friend," Miller whispered, looking nervously down the empty cell block. "He said the acquisition is proceeding as planned. The Alcazar subsidiaries are bleeding."
Camila smiled, a cruel, twisted expression that stretched across her pale face.
"Excellent," she purred, stepping closer to the door. "Julian thought he could banish me to this hellhole and live happily ever after with his pathetic little wife. He forgot that I helped build his empire. I know where all the weak pillars are."
"What about the payment for this message?" Miller asked greedily.
"The funds have already been wired to your offshore account, as promised," Camila lied smoothly. She fully intended to have Lorenzo dispose of the corrupt guard the moment she was free. "Tell Lorenzo to proceed to phase two. I want the coordinates of the Tuscan estate finalized."
"You want him to move on the family?" Miller asked, a hint of hesitation in his voice. "That’s a heavy line to cross."
"I want Julian to feel exactly what I feel," Camila hissed, her eyes wide and manic. "I want him to lose absolutely everything he loves. I want him completely broken."
Suddenly, the heavy steel door to the cell block slammed open. Miller jumped back in terror as the Warden himself marched down the corridor, flanked by four heavily armed tactical officers and Julian Rossi.

Julian stepped up to the cell door, looking at Camila with an expression of absolute, unadulterated disgust.
"Your game is over, Camila," Julian said, his voice echoing like thunder in the concrete hall.
