Chapter 6 - The Fortress

Anton drove them deep into the Swiss Alps, to a remote, off-the-grid chalet Julian had purchased years ago under a shell corporation. Victor didn't know it existed.
The cabin was a fortress. Bulletproof glass, reinforced steel doors, and an independent geothermal power grid. Once they were locked inside, the adrenaline wore off, and Elena collapsed onto the plush living room rug, sobbing uncontrollably.
Julian knelt beside her, his heart shattering into a million pieces. He pulled her into his arms, and this time, she didn't resist. She buried her face into his chest, clutching his shirt as she cried for all the months of terror, loneliness, and scrubbing floors while carrying the heir to an empire.
"I'm sorry," Julian whispered into her hair, his own tears falling freely. "I am so sorry I didn't protect you. I am so sorry I let that snake into our lives. I will never, ever let you out of my sight again."
Elena looked up at him, her eyes red and puffy. "I thought you hated me, Julian. I thought you wanted us dead."
"I have never loved anything in my life the way I love you," Julian said fiercely, placing his hand over her stomach. As if on cue, the baby gave a strong kick against his palm. Julian gasped, a watery smile breaking across his exhausted face. "He's strong."
"She," Elena corrected softly, a faint smile touching her lips. "It's a girl."
Julian leaned his forehead against hers. "A girl. We're having a daughter."

For the next three days, the chalet became a sanctuary of healing. Julian cooked for her, massaged her swollen feet, and patiently answered every question she had, showing her the real documents, the real emails, proving his innocence beyond a shadow of a doubt. Slowly, the walls Elena had built to survive began to crumble, and the deep, passionate love they had once shared reignited in the quiet of the snowy mountains.
But while they healed, Julian was orchestrating a war.
