Chapter 9 - Cornered

Elena stepped firmly between Valeria and Daniel, adopting a fiercely protective stance.
"The police are already on their way,"
Elena announced, staring the monster down.
The retired judge held up his cell phone.
"I have the emergency dispatcher on the line right now, Daniel,"
The judge confirmed, stepping backward toward the exit.
Daniel looked at the judge, then at the exits, and realized with cold, terrifying clarity that his meticulously planned execution had failed completely. The narrative was lost. He was trapped.
He slowly slid his right hand inside his tailored tuxedo jacket.
Elena’s eyes widened in absolute terror.
"Watch out!"
Elena screamed.
Daniel pulled a heavy, black semiautomatic pistol from his shoulder holster.
The grand hall erupted into pure, hysterical chaos. Guests screamed, dropping their glasses and diving behind the massive marble pillars. Some sprinted desperately toward the emergency exits, while others simply dropped to the floor, covering their heads.
Valeria tried desperately to push herself up, but the agonizing pain in her lower back completely paralyzed her.
Daniel raised the pistol, pointing the barrel directly at his pregnant wife.
"If that child is born, everything I have built is destroyed,"
Daniel stated coldly.
"You have built absolutely nothing,"
May you like
Valeria spat back, her voice shaking but entirely defiant.
"You have only ever inherited the power of far greater men."
