Chapter 3 - The Fall

"Get down!"
Elena screamed at the absolute top of her lungs.
She slammed both of her hands violently into the center of Valeria’s back, shoving the pregnant woman forward with every ounce of strength she possessed.
Valeria completely lost her balance. A scream of pure, unadulterated terror tore from her throat as she tumbled forward.
She fell down the remaining dozen stairs, desperately twisting her body mid-air to protect her stomach. She hit the polished marble floor of the grand hall with a heavy, sickening thud, sliding several feet before finally coming to a halt.
The music instantly stopped.
A collective, horrified gasp erupted from the two hundred guests. Women shrieked, men shouted in confusion, and the crystal champagne glasses shattered against the marble floor.
Valeria lay on the ground, bruised, disoriented, and entirely terrified, clutching her stomach in agonizing panic.
"The maid pushed her!"
A woman screamed from the front of the crowd, pointing a manicured finger directly at Elena, who was standing frozen on the staircase.
"She’s heavily pregnant! Someone call an ambulance!"
A businessman shouted, rushing toward the fallen woman.
