Chapter 7 - The Unmasking

An older, distinguished gentleman stepped cautiously forward from the crowd.
He was a retired federal judge and one of Daniel’s oldest family friends. He had visited the mansion’s private armory on multiple occasions.
"She is entirely correct,"
The judge confirmed, his voice echoing loudly in the quiet hall.
"I have seen his collection myself. Every single weapon he owns bears that exact silver crest."
The crowd erupted into chaotic, terrified whispers.
Daniel’s fake, comforting smile instantly vanished, replaced by a cold, hardened mask of pure rage.
Valeria stared at the silver wolf carved into the weapon that had been intended to pierce her heart. She remembered the long, solitary afternoons her husband spent practicing his archery in the back gardens, strictly forbidding anyone from touching his expensive gear.
She slowly turned her head, looking up at the man she had loved.
Tears of absolute, profound betrayal flooded her eyes.
"You intended to murder our child?"
Valeria asked, her voice cracking with an agonizing, unbearable pain.
Daniel remained silent, his jaw clenching aggressively.

"Tell me it wasn't you,"
Valeria begged desperately, praying for a lie she could believe.
