Chapter 16 - The Ultimate Deadlock

Daniel’s hyper-vigilant senses caught the whisper.
His face contorted in sudden, absolute panic.
"What did you just say?"
Daniel demanded, aiming the shotgun directly at the maid’s head.
Elena slowly stood up, looking the armed, desperate billionaire directly in the eyes.
"I said,"
Elena announced loudly, her voice echoing with triumphant finality.
"Every single audio file, banking record, and encrypted email on that drive was automatically forwarded to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the State Police, and three major news networks exactly fifteen minutes ago."
For the very first time that night, Daniel looked genuinely, absolutely terrified.
The wailing police sirens suddenly cut out right in front of the mansion.
The heavy front doors were violently thrown open, and a dozen heavily armed SWAT officers poured into the grand hall, their assault rifles raised and aimed directly at Daniel.
"Drop the weapon!"
The lead SWAT commander roared.
Daniel looked frantically around the room. He was entirely surrounded. There were thirty guns pointed at his chest, and his entire empire of lies had just been broadcast to the world.

There was absolutely no escape.
But instead of dropping the weapon, Daniel slowly, deliberately aimed the barrel of the shotgun directly upward, pointing it at the massive crystal chandelier hanging precariously over Valeria’s head.
