Chapter 11 - A New Kind of Friend

Sophie started spending time with a girl named Mia from her class.
"Can Mia come over for a playdate?"
"I think that’s a wonderful idea,"
Richard said.
Mia’s mother, Sarah, was a kind, observant woman who was clearly familiar with the town’s rumors.
"We’re very happy to have you as neighbors,"
Sarah said during the playdate, sipping coffee.
"It’s good to see Sophie playing like a normal child."
Richard realized then that the town didn't look at them with pity anymore. They looked at them with a quiet, collective respect.
"She’s doing well,"
