"He thought leaving it here would break me," I whispered, staring down at the intricate crescent moon. "He thought it would remind me of my vulnerability, of the night we lost everything."
"It almost did," my father admitted, his voice rough with emotion.
"No," I said firmly, closing my fist around the silver necklace. "He didn't break us, Dad. He just returned something that was stolen. He gave us back a piece of her."
My father looked at me, a profound sense of pride replacing the exhaustion in his eyes.
