Chapter 39 - The Checkmate

"Understand what?" Silas gritted his teeth, glaring up at me.
"I didn't just drain your accounts tonight," I explained calmly, lowering my weapon slightly but keeping it ready. "While you were driving out here to play your little intimidation game, Thorne hacked your secure servers in the city."
Silas’s eyes widened in sudden, dawning horror.
"Every file you had on my father, every piece of blackmail, every operational ledger you kept for your criminal enterprise—it was all copied and forwarded directly to the FBI cyber division an hour ago," I said.
"You're lying!" he spat, struggling to sit up.
"I’m not. I also sent them the GPS coordinates of your newly purchased warehouse." I checked the watch on my wrist. "In fact, they should be raiding it right about now. Your entire empire is gone, Silas. You have nothing left to threaten me with."

As if on cue, the distant, unmistakable wail of police sirens pierced the quiet night air. The sound grew louder, echoing across the open fields leading toward my property.
"I called the local sheriff ten minutes ago," I added. "I told them an armed intruder broke into my home."
