Mateo whimpered, burying his face in Valeria’s leg. But Leo, the brave little boy who had survived open-heart surgery, didn't cry. He looked at the heavy ventilation grate near the ceiling at the back of the bunker.

"Valeria," Leo whispered, pointing a small finger. "The vent is open. I can fit through there. I can crawl out and open the back emergency exit for us while they are busy at the front door."

"It's too dangerous, Leo," Valeria panicked, shaking her head.
