Chapter 15 - The Boss Awakens

While Valeria and Mateo navigated the dark depths of the secret escape tunnel, the grand mansion above was dripping with blood and smoke.

Alejandro Ríos was pinned behind his overturned mahogany desk, completely surrounded by deafening gunfire. His elite security team had been decimated by the sudden betrayal. He slammed a fresh magazine into his assault rifle, his mind racing with lethal clarity.

Valeria had been absolutely right.

Héctor had meticulously orchestrated this entire massacre. The diary was completely real. Alejandro’s blind, stupid loyalty had not only cost him his beloved wife, but it had now doomed his entire empire and endangered his only son. The realization hit him harder than any bullet ever could.

The heavy study doors were blown completely off their hinges by a concussive grenade. Alejandro ducked, his ears ringing violently. Three masked mercenaries stormed into the room, sweeping their weapons.

Alejandro didn't hesitate. He rose from behind the ruined desk with terrifying speed, firing with deadly, practiced precision. Two men dropped instantly, clutching their chests. The third mercenary managed to fire a wild burst, grazing Alejandro’s shoulder, before the cartel boss closed the distance, disarmed him, and slammed the man against the wall, pressing the hot barrel of a pistol under his chin.

“Where is Héctor?” Alejandro roared, his eyes burning with absolute, demonic fury.

“He’s… he’s hunting the boy!” the mercenary choked out, terrified of the famous cartel boss. “He sent men to the cellar! He said there was a secret tunnel out to the old highway!”

Alejandro’s blood ran completely cold. Mateo and Valeria were trapped underground with the traitor.

He didn't waste another second. He pulled the trigger, dropping the mercenary, and sprinted out of the ruined study. He ignored the burning tapestries and the bodies of his former friends. He was no longer a cartel boss fighting for his criminal empire; he was a desperate, lethal father fighting for the only innocent thing left in his dark, violent life.

He grabbed a heavy tactical shotgun from a fallen guard and sprinted desperately toward the wine cellar.
