Chapter 20 - A New Chapter

Six months later, the dark, suffocating shadows that had plagued the Ríos family had finally lifted.
Valeria did not return to the massive mansion as a maid in a cheap, oversized uniform. She returned every single day as Mateo’s private tutor, officially hired by Alejandro at a salary that ensured she and her brother would never have to worry about money again.
The little boy was completely transformed. He was talking constantly, laughing loudly, and playing with his toys like a completely normal, happy four-year-old child. The horrific nightmares of the scarred man had entirely stopped, replaced by the bright, colorful drawings of sunny gardens, his father, and the brave girl who had saved him.
One sunny afternoon, Valeria sat on the lush green grass of the private courtyard, watching Mateo chase a small, expensive puppy Alejandro had bought him. Leo, now fully recovered and full of energy, was running right alongside him, laughing wildly in the warm sun.
Alejandro stood quietly on the terrace, watching the beautiful, peaceful scene. He stepped down and walked over to Valeria, handing her a glass of fresh lemonade.
“He called me 'Dad' this morning without crying,” Alejandro noted quietly, sitting down on the grass beside her, completely ignoring the dirt on his expensive tailored suit.
“He is incredibly strong, Alejandro,” Valeria smiled, watching the boys play. “He just needed someone to stand in the dark with him for a little while.”
Alejandro looked at the remarkable young woman beside him. She had walked into his dark, violent world armed with nothing but a bucket and a mop, and she had single-handedly completely rewritten their tragic destiny. She didn't fear him, she didn't want his power, and she loved his son purely.

“You are no longer an employee in this family, Valeria,” Alejandro said softly, his dark eyes filled with a genuine, enduring respect he had never shown anyone else. “You are family. And you always will be.”
Valeria smiled, leaning back in the warm grass, finally allowing herself to rest. The cartel boss's son was safe, her brother was completely healed, and the long, terrifying nightmare was finally over.
