Chapter 8 - The Hotel Suite

|
Meanwhile, at the Grand Regency Hotel, Julian was pacing back and forth across the marble floor of Suite 802.
Chloe was lounging on the plush sofa, sipping champagne while wearing an expensive silk robe.
"Julian, babe, stop stressing," Chloe said smoothly, swirling her glass. "So she changed hospitals using her family's old name. Who cares? She’s just trying to get attention."
"You don't understand, Chloe!" Julian snapped, running a hand through his hair. "She signed as Evelyn Rose Vance. And Daniel Mercer—Harrison Vance’s personal attorney—was named as her legal representative!"
Chloe scoffed. "So what? Evelyn told you years ago that she was completely disowned by her dad. She doesn't have a dime of Vance money. She’s been living on your salary for six years!"
Julian hesitated. That was true. Evelyn wore simple clothes, drove a five-year-old sedan, and never asked for luxury items. She had always insisted on being frugal.
"Maybe she’s bluffer," Julian murmured, trying to reassure himself. "She’s probably staying in a public ward, using her father's name to scare me."
Suddenly, Julian’s phone buzzed aggressively.
It wasn't a text from Evelyn. It was a notification from his lead financial director at Cross Enterprises.
ALERT: First National Bank has frozen our thirty-million-dollar credit line. All corporate accounts are under emergency review.
Julian’s face turned pale. "What?"
A second notification flashed: URGENT: Emergency Board Meeting called for 8:00 AM by Helios Capital.

Chloe sat up, dropping her champagne glass onto the carpet. "Helios Capital? The primary funder of our new tower project?"
Julian swallowed hard, a sudden, cold dread pooling in his stomach. "Something is wrong."
