While the surgical team stabilized my vitals inside OR Three, Arthur Sterling opened a heavy leather file inside the hospital’s executive lounge.
Six years ago, when Julian proposed to me, he was a broke property developer facing bankruptcy. He had a dream of building Cross Enterprises, but no bank would lend him a single dollar.
He had cried in our tiny apartment one night, threatening to end his life if his flagship project failed.
Heartbroken, I went behind his back to Arthur Sterling. I instructed Arthur to use my private maternal inheritance—a fifty-million-dollar offshore trust left by my late mother—as secret collateral to back Julian’s bank loans.
I made Arthur create a complex network of shell companies called Helios Capital so Julian would never know his wife was funding him. Julian believed he had secured a miracle investment from an anonymous foreign angel fund because of his "genius."
For six years, every building Julian bought, every loan he secured, and every expansion he executed was anchored by my money.
"Does he know about the default clauses?" Harrison asked Arthur, staring out the window at the city lights.

"He never read the fine print, sir," Arthur replied, pulling out a document stamped in gold foil. "Section 14B states that if the primary guarantor—Evelyn Vance—determines that the borrower is engaging in fraudulent activity or moral failure that risks the capital, the guarantor can unilaterally seize control of all cross-collateralized assets."
Harrison took a sip of dark coffee. "Julian Cross thinks he is an empire builder. Break him."
