Chapter 6 - The Reunion

|

The ambulance pulled up to the private helipad entrance of Vance Memorial.

The doors swung open, and the cold night air hit my face. Standing at the end of the ramp was an elderly man wearing an unbuttoned trench coat over silk pajamas. His silver hair was messy, and his hands were trembling as he leaned on a silver-headed cane.

Harrison Vance. The billionaire kingmaker who had brought international corporations to their knees, standing in the rain like a terrified father.

"Evelyn," he called out, his voice cracking.

Tears finally overflowed my eyes as the paramedics rolled me toward him. "Dad..."

He dropped his cane and grabbed my hand with both of his, kneeling beside the gurney despite his aging knees. He pressed his forehead against my knuckles, weeping silently.

"I’m sorry," I sobbed. "I was so stupid. I stayed away for six years because of my pride..."

"Hush, my little bird," Harrison whispered fiercely, kissing my cheek. "You owe me no apologies. You are home. That is all that matters."

He stood up, his eyes instantly shifting from soft fatherly love to lethal authority as he faced Arthur Sterling.

"Is the medical team ready?" Harrison demanded.

"Dr. Aris Thorne is waiting in Operating Room Three, sir," Arthur reported. "The blood transfusions are underway."

Harrison squeezed my hand. "Go inside, my child. Fight for my granddaughter. I will handle everything else."

"Dad," I caught his sleeve, my breath ragged. "Julian thinks he built his company alone. He doesn't know about the collateral."

Harrison’s eyes narrowed into slits of ice. "He will know by sunrise."
