Chapter 16 - The Failed Theft|
Refusing to accept defeat, Ethan dragged Madison down to the local police precinct, adamantly demanding to file formal theft charges against me. He desperately tried to convince the desk sergeant that I had secretly transferred funds out of a joint account in order to hide marital assets ahead of a divorce.
But Daniel Cho, the meticulous bank investigator, was already ten steps ahead of him. The moment he received a heads-up from the police department, Daniel personally drove down to the precinct with the complete financial dossier.
"Officer, Mr. Ethan Morgan here possesses absolutely no legal standing regarding those funds," Daniel stated calmly.
He placed a tablet on the counter to play the video of Ethan throwing a violent tantrum at the bank, alongside the original trust account contract.
"This is a protected educational trust account belonging strictly to a minor. Ms. Claire is the sole legal custodian with decision-making power, as explicitly outlined in this contract. Furthermore, we have an audio recording of him actively threatening our teller, attempting to coerce her into releasing these funds to pay off his illicit personal debts," Daniel added.
The officer reviewed the documents, then turned to glare at Ethan with a thoroughly exhausted, menacing look.

"Mr. Morgan," the officer said firmly. "Filing a false police report is a serious criminal offense. I highly suggest you leave this building immediately before I decide to put you in handcuffs for obstruction of justice and violating your active no-contact order."
Madison, who had been hiding cowardly behind Ethan’s back, finally realized they had kicked a hornets' nest. She desperately tugged at his sleeve, whispering frantically. Humiliated and utterly defeated, the two of them slinked out of the police station. The legal net we had cast was now completely, inescapably tightened around them.
