Chapter 14 - Digital Threats|

Violently evicted from the house and completely cut off from all financial resources, Ethan began acting like a rabid animal backed into a corner. Because the protective order explicitly banned direct contact, he started firing off a relentless barrage of text messages using his sister’s phone, and subsequently, a string of untraceable burner numbers.

“You are losing your mind, Claire. You’re just hallucinating from all the heavy pain medication.”

“You better drop this lawsuit before I tell the judge what an unfit mother you are because of your postpartum depression.”

“Do you really think you can steal my daughter away from me? You’ll never win!”

Every single time my phone pinged with a new toxic message, Melissa quietly picked it up, took a timestamped screenshot, and meticulously logged the entire communication history.

"Every single one of these messages is going straight into my master file," Melissa said with a deeply satisfied smirk. "And every time he attempts to contact you, it constitutes another direct violation of the Emergency Protective Order. I am forwarding every single breach straight to the sheriff's deputy."

He called me unstable. He continuously tried to shift the blame onto me. But the undeniable reality was that every frantic action he took was simply providing us with more ammunition to use against him.

When Ethan finally discovered that Lily's custodial account required my physical signature and could not legally be liquidated to pay off the massive personal debts he had accumulated wining and dining Madison, he made the stupidest move yet: he called the police and attempted to report the transfer as theft. He truly believed he could twist the narrative.

However, the authorities were already fully briefed. Daniel Cho had already provided them with the rejected check, the incriminating security footage, the signed account agreement, and the audio recording of Ethan's unhinged demands at the bank. He was walking straight into a trap.
