Chapter 15 - The Prenup Reminder|

The following morning, Ethan left a lengthy voicemail from yet another blocked number. His tone had bizarrely shifted from frantic threats to a sickening, artificial smugness.
"You’ll come crawling back to me eventually, Claire," Ethan’s voice echoed loudly in the sterile hospital room. "Did you forget? That house is marital property. I own half of it. You simply cannot afford to drag out a massive legal fight against me."
Listening to his delusion, I could only shake my head and let out a cold, bitter laugh. He had truly forgotten, or perhaps deliberately chosen to ignore, one extremely crucial legal fact.
Before our lavish wedding even took place, my parents had fully funded the hefty down payment for that property. The deed to the house was exclusively in my name. Furthermore, Melissa had painstakingly recorded every single monthly mortgage payment as originating from my separate, individual trust funds.
But most importantly: the prenuptial agreement. Ethan had physically signed that ironclad document with his very own hired attorney present in the room. His boundless arrogance had simply caused him to assume that, when push came to shove, fear and emotional manipulation would make me tremble and render all that legal paperwork entirely irrelevant.

Melissa gave him absolutely no opportunity to liquidate anything. She immediately filed injunctions freezing any attempted property transfers before Ethan could even think about hiding assets. She argued, successfully, that his relentless, threatening messages posed a direct danger not only to my physical safety, but to everything that legally and rightfully belonged to my newborn daughter, Lily. He was effectively paralyzed financially.
He was trapped in a web of his own making, and the more he struggled and threatened, the tighter those legal bindings became. The illusion of his power was evaporating, leaving him with absolutely nothing but empty threats and mounting criminal charges.
