Chapter 1 - The Birthday Surprise|

My thirty-fifth birthday was supposed to be a memorable milestone, a night filled with laughter, clinking glasses, and warm wishes. Instead, it ended a mere twenty minutes after the dessert course was served, at the exact moment I found my husband, Ethan, kissing my younger sister, Madison, passionately beside his SUV in the restaurant’s dimly lit parking garage.

Earlier, Ethan had excused himself from the dinner table, claiming that he and Madison needed to fetch a special surprise gift they had prepared for me. Upstairs, our guests were still raising their glasses, the smooth jazz music still echoing softly in my ears, but my world had completely collapsed. The worst part was not seeing Ethan’s hand sliding intimately under Madison’s heavy winter coat. The part that made my heart stop and my blood run cold was the terrifying confidence in my sister's voice when she spotted me standing frozen in the dark corner.

"Please don't ruin your own birthday," Madison whispered.

Her eyes held not a single trace of apology, guilt, or panic. It was a cold, calculated command. For one hot, blinding second, I wanted to scream. I wanted to howl loud enough for every single person on the upper floor to hear about this filthy betrayal. But instead of letting my emotions take control, I turned to look at Ethan. His mouth opened, perhaps intending to utter some familiar, pathetic excuse, but no sound came out. His throat seemed completely dry, choked by the reality of being caught.

I didn't shed a single tear. I turned my back to them and walked straight toward the elevator. The sound of my heels clicking against the cold concrete floor was rhythmic, sharp, and decisive. My heart was shattered into a million irreversible pieces, but the rational mind of a woman who held a fifty-two percent stake in her family’s company began to speak up. I was not going to let them destroy me this easily.
