Chapter 8 - The True Heiress

With the divorce finalized and Grant safely insulated by his own arrogance, it was time to move.
I arranged a private, off-the-books meeting in the secure conference room of Daniel’s law firm. Waiting for me were three of the most ruthless, meticulous forensic accountants in the state. They sat around the mahogany table, looking professional and serious.
“Gentlemen,” I said, taking my seat at the head of the table. I placed a thick, leather-bound ledger on the surface. “My ex-husband believes he is the sole proprietor of Vale Medical Systems. He is not. I am the primary shareholder through the Vale Family Trust.”
The lead accountant, a sharp-eyed man named Harrison, nodded respectfully. “We understand, Ms. Vale. What exactly are we looking for?”
“Everything,” I commanded, my voice cold and precise. “Grant has been operating with zero oversight for the past eighteen months. He believes the corporate accounts are his personal piggy bank. I want every single transaction, every expense report, and every offshore transfer analyzed. Look for anomalies. Look for Celeste.”

For two weeks, the accountants tore through Grant’s financial footprint like bloodhounds. They worked in absolute secrecy, bypassing Grant’s compromised internal counsel and accessing the raw data directly through the board’s audit committee, which answered only to me.
I spent my days at the guesthouse, nursing Lily, playing with her on a soft blanket in the sun, and waiting for the hammer to fall. I was no longer the heartbroken wife recovering in a hospital bed. I was the architect of my ex-husband's ruin.
