Chapter 13 - Tightening the Noose

With the DNA report and the voice memo in hand, the legal machine kicked into high gear.
Daniel worked through the night. Through a sealed, expedited civil filing, he subpoenaed the exact clinic records to confirm the chain of custody for the DNA sample and verify Celeste’s signature on the intake forms. We couldn't leave any room for them to claim the document was forged.
The clinic complied within twenty-four hours. The records were ironclad.
Next, Daniel pulled Grant’s medical files, legally accessible due to the ongoing discovery process of the asset division. The vasectomy records were perfectly documented. The operating surgeon even provided an affidavit confirming the procedure was permanent and irreversible.
Grant’s claim to the child was medically, scientifically, and legally absurd. But his blinding ego and his desperate need for a male heir had convinced him that his own body had miraculously defied science.
“We have everything,” Daniel said, dropping a massive stack of authenticated folders onto my coffee table. “The fraud, the forgery, the paternity, the embezzlement. If we drop this on the DA’s desk right now, they’ll be in handcuffs by dinner.”

I looked at the files. I looked at the date on the calendar. Grant’s lavish, million-dollar wedding to Celeste was exactly three days away.
“No,” I said, picking up the folders. “We do this my way. Grant loves an audience. We are going to give him the biggest audience of his life.”
