Chapter 37 - The Foundation Gala

To celebrate the monumental success of the Vale-S1 Stent and to raise external capital for the Lily Vale Fellowship, we hosted a massive, unprecedented philanthropic gala in the grand ballroom of the Field Museum.

It was the most coveted invitation of the year. The mayor, senators, international dignitaries, and the elite of the global medical community were all in attendance.

I stood at the top of the grand marble staircase, looking out over the sea of attendees. I wore a stunning, custom-designed emerald gown that radiated power and elegance. I didn't have a husband clinging to my arm, dictating my conversations or judging my demeanor. I stood entirely alone, and I had never felt more powerful.

Sarah Jenkins, the prodigy who had invented the stent, walked up beside me. She looked beautiful in a sleek black dress, holding a glass of champagne.

"I can't believe this is real, Eleanor," Sarah whispered, looking out at the billionaires and politicians who were currently bidding millions of dollars to fund her research program. "Five years ago, I was a graduate student being told to lower my expectations."

"And tonight, you are the most valuable mind in this room," I smiled, clinking my glass against hers. "Never lower your expectations, Sarah. Force the world to rise to meet them."

Jonathan stepped up to the microphone on the main stage, bringing the massive room to a respectful silence.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Jonathan’s voice echoed through the grand hall. "Tonight, we are not just celebrating a medical breakthrough. We are celebrating a fundamental shift in how we empower the next generation of innovators. And none of this would be possible without the unwavering, brilliant leadership of one woman. Please welcome the Chairwoman of Vale Medical Systems, Eleanor Vale."

The entire ballroom erupted into a deafening, sustained standing ovation. It wasn't the polite, obligatory applause I used to receive as Grant’s accessory. It was roaring, genuine, and profound respect.

I walked down the staircase, the flashbulbs of the press cameras illuminating the room. I took the stage, looking out at the empire I had built from the ashes of my ruin. I had balanced the ledger, and the victory was absolute.
