Chapter 30 - Controlling the Narrative

The announcement of the Vale-S1 Stent sent Vale Medical’s stock surging to unprecedented historic highs. We were featured on the cover of Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and every major medical publication globally.

However, immense success always attracts vultures. Certain segments of the media, hungry for scandal, attempted to tie our current triumph back to the dark history of the company. A prominent tabloid journalist, infamous for his vicious hit pieces, managed to secure a live, prime-time television interview with me, clearly intending to dredge up Grant’s crimes to overshadow my achievements.

I sat in the bright studio, wearing a razor-sharp crimson suit, projecting absolute authority. The journalist, a smarmy man named Vance, leaned forward with a predatory grin.

"Eleanor, the success of the Vale-S1 is undeniable," Vance began smoothly. "But many people find it difficult to forget that Vale Medical was built on the foundation of your ex-husband, Grant Vale, who is currently sitting in a federal prison for massive fraud. How much of this current success is funded by the money he stole?"

I didn't blink. I didn't flinch. I looked directly into the camera.

"Grant Vale did not build this foundation, Vance," I stated, my voice echoing with icy precision. "Grant Vale was a parasite who nearly destroyed this company through his own narcissism and greed. The money he stole was seized and restituted by the federal government years ago."

Vance attempted to interrupt, but I raised a hand, silencing him on his own show.

"The success of the Vale-S1 is funded by the ethical, transparent divestment of toxic assets, and the strategic reallocation of funds into the Lily Vale Fellowship," I continued flawlessly. "It is the direct result of empowering brilliant female scientists, rather than protecting corrupt male executives. If you want to talk about Grant Vale, you can write to him in prison. But if you want to talk about the future of modern medicine, you will look at me. Because I am the one building it."

The studio was dead silent. Vance swallowed hard, looking down at his cue cards, entirely derailed.

"Now," I smiled, a cold, victorious expression. "Do you have any questions about the synthetic polymers, or are we finished here?"

The interview aired unedited. It was a masterclass in narrative control. The media never brought up Grant Vale again.
