Chapter 35 - The Global Horizon

Halcyon’s groundbreaking success had begun to attract international inquiries, pulling our work onto the global stage. Representatives from human rights coalitions in Europe and Australia reached out to study our integrated model of secure housing and financial independence. I spent my morning in a high-level coordination meeting with an international delegation exploring how to adapt our infrastructure for cross-border survivor relocation programs.
"The challenge internationally is jurisdiction," the lead European delegate explained via our secure video link. "Abusers with financial means often weaponize cross-border legal loopholes to track or harass survivors."
"We anticipated that exact loophole," I replied, leaning forward with absolute confidence. "Our legal task force has already established secure international protocols with allied agencies to block asset transfers and enforce emergency protective orders across borders. If an abuser thinks distance or nationality will shield them from accountability, they are severely mistaken."
The delegates exchanged impressed nods, recognizing that Halcyon had evolved far beyond a domestic shelter—we were pioneering a global standard for protective equity.
After concluding the international call, I walked out onto the sunlit terrace to clear my head. The sea breeze caught my hair, carrying the sharp, clean scent of the ocean. Marcus walked up quietly, handing me a freshly printed briefing on our upcoming Pacific Northwest expansion phase.
"Word travels fast," Marcus remarked, looking out at the endless horizon. "Before long, you'll be running an international network."

"If it keeps women safe across borders, then we expand," I said simply, taking the briefing from his hand. "We built this from the ashes of a nightmare. There’s no limit to how far light can travel."
