Chapter 19 - The Arrest

"I spent the last three years cleaning hotel rooms," I told him, my voice echoing in the quiet room. "I audited commercial kitchens at midnight. I negotiated brutal supplier contracts, and I spent months rebuilding failing properties on the coast while you sat in expensive restaurants and mocked my 'little hotel job.' The board of directors elected me today not because of my bloodline, but because I earned their absolute trust. My father gave me an opportunity. You gave me the proof I needed to destroy you."
I nodded to the team of auditors and the bank representatives. "Halcyon Hotels is filing civil claims against Vale Crest for fraudulent misrepresentation and conspiracy. The banks have informed me they are accelerating your loans immediately. Your company entered receivership twenty minutes ago."
Detective Ramos stepped forward, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "Adrian Vale, you are under arrest for aggravated assault, forgery, and multiple counts of financial fraud."
Another officer moved toward a pale, shaking Celeste. "Celeste Vale, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit fraud." Investigators had already recovered the deleted text messages showing she had actively helped plan the coerced transfer at the altar. Sienna, weeping quietly, had already agreed to testify against them both.
As the officers locked the cuffs on Adrian's wrists and turned him forcibly toward the boardroom doors, he stopped. He looked back at me, his arrogance finally broken, tears of terror in his eyes.

"Elena, please," he begged, his voice cracking. "I love you."
I reached into my pocket and pulled out the diamond wedding ring. "No," I said, dropping it cleanly into the detective's plastic evidence bag. "You just loved the door you thought I could open."
