Chapter 21 - The First Wave of Arrivals

The heavy oak doors swung inward with a solid, reassuring thud, signaling the official opening of Halcyon’s new sanctuary. Marcus stood near the grand entrance, offering a calm, professional welcome that immediately put the guests at ease. I smoothed the lapel of my blazer and descended the grand staircase to meet them personally.
"Welcome home," I said softly, catching the eye of a young woman clutching a small canvas bag.
She blinked, tears welling in her eyes before she managed a tentative smile. "Is this really safe? No one knows where we are?"
"No one," I assured her, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "The security protocols here are impenetrable, and your privacy is our absolute priority. Take a deep breath. You are in control now."

Behind her, social workers and legal advisors stepped forward to guide the arrivals toward the registration desks, where warm meals and quiet rooms awaited them. The transition wasn't going to be easy—deep trauma doesn't vanish overnight just because the physical walls are secure. But seeing them walk through those doors without fear validated every sleepless night, every legal battle, and every sacrifice it took to build this place. Marcus handed me the updated check-in manifest, his expression filled with quiet pride. We had built something enduring, a fortress of second chances where these women could finally reclaim their futures.
