Chapter 18 - GHOST OF THE PAST|

Damon took the small wooden box into his private study, placing it carefully on the mahogany desk.
Rosa stood near the door, her hand resting nervously against the frame, while Lev held a scanning device over the package.
"It's clear of explosives or chemicals, boss," Lev reported. "It's just paper inside."
Damon used a silver letter opener to cut the wire. He lifted the wooden lid.
Inside lay a single, yellowed envelope, along with an old, tarnished silver ring—the exact match to the wedding band Damon had buried ten years ago.
Damon’s breath hitched in his throat. His hands trembled as he picked up the ring.
"That's... that's Elena's ring," Damon whispered, his face turning pale as slate. "I buried this with her in France."
"How is that possible?" Rosa gasped, stepping closer to the desk.
Damon pulled the letter from the envelope and unfolded it. The handwriting was sharp, elegant, and instantly recognizable.
My dearest Damon, the letter read.
If you are reading this, it means Victor Valenti has failed, and you have found my sister Rosa. I know you believe I died in the hospital fire ten years ago. But I was taken. I was hidden away to protect you from the true syndicate leaders in Europe.
Do not trust the records. Do not trust the grave.

I am coming home.
Damon dropped the letter onto the desk, staring at the words as if they were written in fire.
