Chapter 18 - The Trial of Betrayal

|
The grand courtroom of the National High Court was packed to the absolute brim. Journalists, legal analysts, and curious onlookers filled every wooden bench, eager to witness the climax of Spain’s most sensational corporate and domestic scandal of the decade.
Alejandro sat in the front row of the gallery, dressed in a stark black suit, his face an immovable mask of granite. Elena sat beside him, taking meticulous notes.
Across the room, sitting at the defense table, were Beatriz, Carmen, and Sergio. They wore standard prison uniforms, their previous glamour completely stripped away. Beatriz looked hollow, her eyes darting nervously around the room. Carmen stared furiously at the floor, while Sergio simply looked defeated.
The lead federal prosecutor, a sharp, unyielding woman, stood before the three-judge panel.
"Your Honors," the prosecutor began, her voice echoing powerfully. "The evidence presented over the past two weeks paints a horrifying picture. This was not a simple case of corporate greed. This was a systematic, calculated conspiracy to ruin a man, steal a multi-million euro empire, and fundamentally torture an innocent eight-year-old child to enforce psychological submission."
The prosecutor projected the WhatsApp logs, the offshore bank transfers, and finally, the horrific photographs of Isabella’s blistered, bleeding hands taken by the medical examiner on the first day of her rescue.
A collective gasp of horror swept through the gallery. Beatriz buried her face in her hands, sobbing loudly. Carmen closed her eyes, refusing to look at the screen.

"These defendants operated without a shred of humanity," the prosecutor concluded fiercely. "They traded the safety of a child for luxury yachts and offshore accounts. The state demands the absolute maximum penalty allowed under the law."
Alejandro watched the screen, his jaw clenched so tightly his teeth ached. He did not feel pity for the tears of his ex-wife. He only felt the cold, absolute certainty that justice was finally closing its jaws around the monsters who had stolen his daughter's childhood.
