Chapter 15 - Healing Hands

|
The clinical, sterile walls of the pediatric wing at the Madrid General Hospital were covered in bright, colorful murals of jungle animals. Dr. Suarez, a leading pediatric specialist, sat on a rolling stool in front of Isabella, carefully examining her hands under a bright medical light.
Alejandro stood right behind his daughter, his large hands resting protectively on her small shoulders.
Dr. Suarez gently pressed along the base of Isabella’s thumbs, checking the mobility of her joints. Isabella did not flinch; she simply watched the doctor with quiet curiosity.
"Well, Señor Vance," Dr. Suarez said, clicking off the bright light and offering a wide, genuine smile. "I am incredibly pleased to say that the tissue regeneration has been phenomenal. Children have an astonishing capacity to heal."
Alejandro let out a breath he felt he had been holding for months.
"Will there be any permanent nerve damage?" Alejandro asked, his voice tight with lingering anxiety.
"None whatsoever," the doctor confirmed, closing her medical chart. "The scarring is purely superficial now, and it will fade almost entirely as she grows. She has full mobility, full strength, and full sensation. She can paint, play the piano, and climb trees without any pain."
Isabella turned her head, looking up at Alejandro with a massive, brilliant smile.
"I can climb trees, Papa!" she announced triumphantly.
Alejandro laughed, a deep, resonant sound that filled the small examination room. He scooped Isabella up into his arms, lifting her high into the air.

"You can climb the tallest tree in all of Spain," Alejandro promised, spinning her around as she giggled wildly.
He looked at her small, healed hands grasping the fabric of his shirt. The physical wounds had officially closed. The emotional wounds would take time, but looking at the pure joy radiating from his daughter's face, Alejandro knew they had finally won the hardest battle of their lives.
