Chapter 17 - A New Canvas

Alejandro walked into the penthouse holding a large, flat package wrapped in brown paper. He found Isabella in the sunroom, deeply focused on a massive watercolor painting of a bright orange sunset over a blue ocean.
"Isabella, I have something for you," Alejandro said, setting the package gently on the table.
She put down her brush, wiping her hands on her paint-splattered apron. Her eyes lit up with curiosity as she carefully tore the brown paper away.
Inside was a beautiful, custom-made leather sketchbook with her initials, I.V., embossed in gold foil on the cover. Alongside it was a set of professional-grade architectural drafting pencils.
"Wow," Isabella breathed, running her small hands reverently over the smooth leather. "It is beautiful, Papa."
"I noticed you have been drawing a lot of buildings lately," Alejandro smiled, taking a seat beside her. "I thought it was time you had the proper tools for the job."
Isabella opened the sketchbook to the very first blank page. She picked up one of the sleek graphite pencils, her small face scrunching up in intense concentration.
"What are you going to draw first?" Alejandro asked, watching her with quiet pride.
"A castle," Isabella announced firmly.
"A castle? For a princess?" Alejandro teased gently.
"No," Isabella replied, looking at him with an incredibly serious, mature expression that belied her young age. "A fortress. With thick walls and big towers. So nothing bad can ever get inside."
Alejandro felt a sudden, fierce pang in his chest. He reached out and gently stroked her dark hair.

"It is a beautiful idea, mi pequeña," Alejandro whispered. "But you do not need to draw a fortress to be safe. I am your fortress. And I will never let the walls fall."
Isabella smiled, a warm, completely trusting expression, and began to sketch the first strong, unshakeable lines of her perfect, safe world.
