Chapter 13 - A Father's Vow

|
Having listened to the devastating, tear-soaked confession of his daughter, the older man clenched his jaw so tightly that his teeth ground together. His eyes were bloodshot, radiating an intense mixture of pure fury and agonizing sorrow. He stood up from his chair, gently stroking Marina’s tangled hair, his voice dropping into a hard, metallic register that carried the absolute authority of a fierce protector.
"My beautiful girl, listen to me very carefully," he stated, enunciating every single word with deliberate precision. "From this exact second forward, you do not have to be afraid of anything or anyone ever again. I do not give a damn how much money he has in the bank, how prestigious his family name is, or what kind of corrupt politicians he plays golf with. I will sell every single asset I own, I will drain my final penny to hire the most ruthless, brilliant lawyers in this country. I promise you, on my life, justice will be served. He will pay dearly for every single tear he forced you to shed."
Marina looked up at her father. She deeply felt the overwhelming, protective love radiating from him. However, deep within the battered core of her own heart, the destructive fire of vengeance simply did not burn. She was utterly, completely exhausted from the constant fighting, the dark manipulation, and the endless cruelty.
She gently pulled his hand down, her voice weak but carrying an ironclad determination.
"Dad, please... I do not want revenge," Marina whispered softly. "Holding onto hatred will only keep me chained to him for the rest of my life. The only thing I desperately want right now is safety. I want to be able to breathe freely. I want Sofia to go to school without being terrified, and I want this baby to be born into a peaceful, quiet home."

She glanced over at the sleeping form of Sofia, a gentle, maternal smile gracing her lips. "All I need is a finalized divorce decree, a permanent restraining order, and full custody of my children. I want my kids to grow up knowing that a home is a place for love, not a place for terror. That is the only victory I care about."
Her father looked deeply into her eyes, fully comprehending the profound maturity and the desperate thirst for peace within her soul. He nodded slowly, pressing his forehead gently against hers. "I understand, sweetheart. We will do this exactly your way. I will bring the peace back to you and your children."
