Chapter 15 - Setting the Trap

|
Mia burst back into Sofia’s bedroom, holding the black burner phone up like a hard-won trophy.
“I found it,” Mia announced, handing the device over to Luca. “It was hidden inside the baseboard of her closet.”
Luca took the phone, his thumb swiping across the screen. It wasn't locked with a passcode—a fatal, arrogant mistake on Vanessa’s part. He opened the encrypted messaging application. There was only one contact listed, saved simply under the initial "D."
Luca read the last few messages aloud, his voice dripping with absolute disgust.
“Is it done yet?” Dante had texted three hours ago.
Vanessa’s reply from an hour ago read: “Tonight. The house is asleep. I have the drops.”
Dante’s final message, sent just twenty minutes before Mia had interrupted the murder attempt, sealed his fate: “Meet me at the old shipyard warehouse on Pier 4 when it’s over. We celebrate, and tomorrow we take the throne.”
Luca’s dark eyes gleamed with a terrifying, predatory light. The ghost had just handed him his exact location and an invitation.
“He expects her to walk through those warehouse doors tonight to tell him my sister is dead,” Luca said softly, his thumbs hovering over the digital keyboard.
“What are you going to do?” Sofia asked, pulling the heavy blankets tightly around her shoulders.
Luca didn't answer immediately. He typed a short, chillingly simple reply from Vanessa’s burner phone and hit send.
“It’s done. She’s gone. I’m on my way.”

Luca tossed the burner phone onto the bedside table and turned to the four heavily armed enforcers waiting in the hallway outside the bedroom door.
“Load the SUVs,” Luca commanded, his voice devoid of any mercy or hesitation. “Bring extra ammunition. We are going to the shipyard.”
